Located on the eastern shore of the Delmarva peninsula in Virginia lies the sleepy little island town of Chincoteague. Just to the east is the barrier island of Assateague, a National Wildlife Refuge that stretches for 37 miles. Assateague is inhabited by a diverse amount of wildlife, but is known mainly for the wild ponies.
