"The photographer, Les Nagy, a former longliner commercial fisherman, took the photo in 1988 while fishing on the Grand Banks; 1200 miles east of Boston off the coast of Nova Scotia. On the Grand Banks it is common for boats to help each other out with gear, fuel, tools, supplies, etc... When the photo was taken, the "Andrea Gail" had just come alongside and borrowed light stick lures from the F/V "High Stakes"; the boat that the photographer was working on at the time. The image was recorded as the "Andrea Gail" pulled away. On a clear blue day in the late summer sun, her hull freshly painted, one sees her crew waving in appreciation for the borrowed gear. Such a contrast to what lay await for this vessel and her crew of six fishermen only three years later." Links Related to the Sea |
