Scrapbook Help part 1 | | | | This page will explain how to save graphics in your PageBuilder Scrapbook to use for personal home pages, or to use in an E-mail Signature Page. I hope I can make the explanation easy to understand so that you can have a happy webTV experience. |
- STEP 1 While surfing the web you find a perfect image!! or background!! and by golly gee whiz - you want that booger for your own!! What do you do? The place where the image/background is located DOES NOT ALLOW LINKING
- While looking at the image/background (cause you clicked on it and it is now showing on a black background)
hit your OPTIONS or GO TO button. When the status thingy comes up - hit SHOW LAST When the URL of the image/back (this is tiresome, so i will just say item from now on, you know what I mean) shows in the status bar you are gonna CUT and COPY it so you -
- push your CMD button (lower left hand row of buttons) and while holding it down - push the A button - release both - and hit CMD and C
You now have the URL highlighted in the bar and OFF YOU GO TO ...WEBSCISSORS... WITH IT!!
- At webscissors - erase the http:// already in the status bar and PASTE - CMD button and V the URL you have in there. Hit RETURN and it will say be patient etc etc and on the next page that comes up - there is YOUR IMAGE - with a yellow box around it -- just do the click thing until it tells you that the image has been stored in YOUR SCRAPBOOK
- YIPPEEE YA HOOOIE you now have an item in your VERY OWN SCRAPBOOK (now do the happy happy joy joy I have something in my scrapbook dance) I will wait here......la la la la.....do wap diddy diddy dum....
OK that was good, glad you are back.
Next is step 2 where we put that image you just saved as your own on to a page and publish it so you can use the image where ever you want without worrying that it won't be linkable.
- STEP 2 Now we are at pagebuilder and you want to CREATE A PAGE. Hint: keep the page title short for typing ease, cause you are gonna have to type it every darn time you make an URL.
Let's name the page - gifs - now we choose the background (it doesn't really matter cause this is just a storage page) take your pick.
- NOW - choose ADD AN ITEM (upper left) see it there? good, now choose - PICTURE
- then OWN SCRAPBOOK - now you see your ITEM THAT YOU JUST PUT IN THERE!! yeah! - put the yellow box around it and CLICK
Now you are on the adding an item page!! Cool ain't it? Your image (item) is showing there in a little box like thingy, choose VIEW THIS PICTURE and.. You will see your item on a black background with THIS SHOWING IN THE STATUS BAR ON YOUR LOWER SCREEN - importD#_gif (I am gonna use the # 3 from now on - for pretend, ok?) it says importD3_gif -THIS IS THE IMPORTANT STEP NOW
- You have to change that _ thing to a . (period) so that it becomes --- importD3.gif --- this will be the end of the URL you will be using for this item every time you want to use it.
I recommend getting a notebook and pen and writting all these items down as you work on making pages, but we will just type this in the smaller text slot below the item - type this -- importD3.gif - blue cat (another pretend example) from now on we will be using this blue cat to make the URL and then use the blue cat on a signature page Once you have typed this in scroll on down and hit DONE this will
- bring you back to your page and VOILA' the blue cat is there on the page!!! (We are only gonna do this one item, but it's the same for everything you add) Over on the left is a list of what you wanna do -- hit PUBLISH
If you want to keep this page private, uncheck the show public box -- and click the "done' as you go along....
- Now you have an image on a page that you published and the image is ready to use!!!
Every URL is gonna pretty much be the same except for the last part, some say mailedD etc and some end in - jpg or JPG - gif or GIF (you gotta pay attention to that) but ours is just importD3.gif Here is the 5 part URL for the blue cat
<<>http://community.webtv.net/YourName/PageName/scrapbookFiles/importD3.gif<>>
- NOTE: the only CAPITAL LETTER other than the ones you may have in your name or page name is the - F in Files (scrapbookFiles)
Well LOOKIE THERE!! you have an URL to use in your signature page for the beautiful blue cat!! Now do that happy happy joy joy dance again!! Ummm. let me think, what haven't I told you? We put the image into scrapbook using webscissors, we created a storage page, we put the image on the page and got the URL # for it and then published the page. We now know the 5 part URL for this image and can use it where ever we want to using this URL. I am gonna have a cup of coffee and think while you go over all this again, and then when I come back, you let me know what I forgot cause I'm senile, ya know LOL

There is a couple more things I should add. If you find yourself on a page of items that aren't 'clickable' just use your OPTIONS or GO TO button - SHOW LAST - and cut and copy - CMD and A, CMD and C the URL of the whole page of items and take it to webscissors - do the same thing, and on the next page - ALL the items that were on that page will be showing. Just choose the one you wanted and click it into the scrapbook. The yellow box will go around each item. I will make the signature page help on another page, so just do the link thing and you will find Signature Help there.
