Lome,Togo

I think you will find Togo on the western coast of Africa. When I was in school this area was known as the "Gold Coast."

The Portugese visited Togoland often in the 16th century. The prominent tribes, includig the Ewe's, dealt in Human Beings as trade. The slave market was centered here.

In the 18th century Denmark was involved. In 1884, the young country of Germany signed an agreement with King Miapa, and Togoland became a German colony. But then this young fledgling country of Germany lost a world war.

Togoland was divided in two. The eastern half was given to the British, which is today part of the country of Ghana. The western half was dealt to France. Today the french's part is called, simply, Togo. The official language, even today is French.

So I hear. I've never been there.
