WE ARE A GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT BELIEVE THAT NOT ENOUGH IS BEING DONE TO STOP THE OVERPOPULATION OF COMPANION ANIMALS. IT IS A HUMAN PROBLEM, AND UNTIL PEOPLE ARE MADE TO BE RESPONSIBLE, THE PROBLEM WILL CONTINUE.
TUBU Animal Rescue has a valid Federal 501.c3 exemption for Charitable or Nonprofit Organizations. It is available upon request for tax purposes.
Progress on the ranch:
Never underestimate the power of a few dedicated people! One 80 year old volunteer spent several days pulling nails to reuse some donated wood. Removing the nails made it safer for storage, reuse and our animals. We have one friend of TUBU that is always on the look out for things we can use. He recently got us 10 rolls of fencing, and a wooden corn crib donated to us. The corn crib will be made into a couple cat buildings in the Spring. We burn wood in a heavy duty stove in the dog barn for supplemental heat; this wood, however, was old planking and will be stored for a later project. The wood we burn is dead wood collected from our property, we estimate another 2 years of collectible wood (from TUBU Ranch) to burn for our cold WI winters. Also, a volunteer donated several trailer loads of hardwood. Another preparation for winter was accomplished by a volunteer. She built a lean-to type framework to cover and protect our pump. The framework was then enclosed by our Director for added insulation.
Most
of
TUBU's fall is being spent getting things in order--wrapping up the end
of the
year projects and planning for next year. We have also had a year to
observe
the ongoing interactions of our feral cat colony. This feline pride
lives at
TUBU and has indoor and outside access. Interesting how many of the
cats choose
to be alone outside in cubbies versus inside where it is warmer. Does
anyone
have any thoughts on this observation? You can reach us at tubu.ranch@yahoo.com..

One cat who loves the outside is Cutie Pie. Cat buddies: Clovis and Tori, one black and the other a gray tortoise shell about 3 years old and spend time sleeping(!) chasing each other and grooming. These semi-feral cats are using all of their enclosure and we have reached cat capacity. The outside cat area will be expanded before snow falls by 400 feet using donated fencing and posts cut from our property! We are so pleased to share that news & the cats will be happy too! |
Medical
news: Thanks
to a TUBU supporter
we have some new information about a treatment that can reverse the
FeLV (
Feline Leukemia ) disease.
Ask your vet for details, but an article
(originally
from New York Post) reported that by using LTCI (lymphocyte T-cell
immunomodulator)
“70-80% of cats treated a showed improvement and
several
positive cats have gone negative” according to Dr. Joel Ehrenzweig,
veterinarian at Protabs.
This treatment has obtained a conditional
license by
the USDA and has no side effects.
Letter
from Mindy Lu:
| Our
dog Drake: Drake,
a 6 year old
mastiff, came to us as a youngster. His owner was conscientious and
responsible
for recognizing that Drake was not the dog for his life style. One
problem that
Drake has was training. Drake was held back from meeting new people and
other
dogs. Because of his size & curiosity, the owner kept a tight hand
on
Drake. The owner became anxious as Drake grew and pulled back on
Drake's leash
more frequently and strongly. Then, as Drake expressed himself by
barking and
straining forward, the owner muzzled Drake. Drake learned that people
approaching him were bad and something to be feared, he acted out in
fear-
becoming stiff, hyper-alert and threatening. He also growled. The owner
surrendered Drake to a Humane Society in eastern WI. In an effort to
save
Drake's life, they called TUBU to see if we could take him. Spending
time with Drake
has been a joy (remember Marmaduke?) we have had to rescue him from a
turtle, a
scary stick (sticking up from the ground) and little Frankie. Drake was
successfully adopted: application completed, interview and home check
passed ,
vet reference checked: Drake loved his new home. However the ex-wife,
did not
like Drake and he was returned to us. The man solved the ex-wife
problem, and was going to take Drake back, but then he lost his home.
Our policy is to provide for TUBU
animals, that means if a forever home is not a forever home, TUBU will
supply
one. |
Gift giving alternatives: Pet Emergency Kit in an effort to keep your animals safe, we hope that you have pet emergency kit. If you don't, here are some suggestions to give yourself or your pet) this measure of safety. If you are making 1 emergency kit, make 2 or 3 !! Give one to a friend and keep another spare . (I have one in my basement where I would go for a bad storm.). The kit should include 5 days worth of: food & water; medicines, & veterinary records, blanket (or bed) stored in a carrier, litter box and litter. Also, micro-chip your pet and attach ID. Leash. Keep a current photos of pet with physical description in your kit as well. Carry an abbreviated pet emergency kit in your car, in the event of an emergency situation your pets are covered. A pet-friendly friend, who knows your house setup & vet, is a necessity and valuable asset. A responsible pet owner has a plan for someone to come to your house if needed (Perhaps you are staying overnight due to SNOW STORM, your pet contact can help). Food Pantry(s) often accept dog and cat food. Many folks who need food also need sustenance for their beloved pets, when you lose so much in life and have to depend on others for basic needs-our family pets are much comfort. Consider a donation of food to a local food pantry this season of gift giving.
Easy ways you can help TUBU help the animals.
