Eugene Saturday Market

THE SATURDAY MARKET
Open every Saturday, April 7 through Nov. 10, Rain or Shine, 10 am - 5 pm
at 8th & Oak in downtown Eugene, Oregon. I chose to list this here because
it is like a weekly festival. Local crafters, food booths for every palette, and
lots and lots of fresh produce and plants.

Bach Festival

THE BACH FESTIVAL
Helmuth Rilling, artistic director and conductor, leads two weeks of
choral-orchestral concerts centering on the music and wide-ranging influence
of J.S. Bach. Set amid the lush forests and scenic rivers of Eugene and the
Willamette Valley, the festival also includes chamber music, family events, and
educational programs in "a musical enterprise virtually without equal in America."

Sat Market

EUGENE ART & THE VINEYARD
Artists from around Oregon and the nation set up shop, er, tent,
alongside over a dozen Oregon wineries. You can buy something neat
for the garden, the kitchen or the wall; you can taste the finest and
latest vintages from some of the best tipples the Willamette Valley has
to offer, and you can stuff yourself silly on food from just about every
culture and ethnic cuisine style you can think of. Barring all that, you
can do some awesome people-watching from face-painted children running around
the grassy park, to people having a little too much wine under the sun, to yuppies
and dreadlock sets mingling and enjoying fine summer weather while all few days of
it last. Walking through the gate, the $5 admission fee also gets you a hand stamp,
so you can come and go as you wish throughout the day.

Shedd

AMERICAN MUSIC FESTIVAL
Over The Rainbow
The Music of America in Hard Times

The Shedd Institute dedicates Oregon Festival of American Music 2008 to the Greatest Generation…to our fathers and mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers who faced the hard times of the Great Depression and World War II, confronted it, lived through it, rose above it, and made our country a better place.

Festival Jazz Director Ken Peplowski, welcomes guest artists Dick Hyman, Maria Jette, Clairdee, Ian Whitcomb, Shirley Andress, Byron Stripling, Red Holloway, Chuck Redd, Derek Smith, Rod Fleeman, Marty Grosz, among others, for 9 days of concerts, recitals, films, talks, youth and senior music camps. The songwriters, composers, jazzmen and bandleaders the festival will focus on include Harold Arlen, Harry Warren, Hoagy Carmichael, Dorothy Fields, E. Y. “Yip” Harburg, “Fats” Waller, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, The Andrews Sisters, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman among many others.

Finally, this summer's festival once again features two fully-staged, all-new musical productions: the Royal Shakespeare Company’s nearly-verbatim re-creation of M-G-M’s 1939 classic motion picture THE WIZARD OF OZ (with its timeless songs by Harold Arlen & E. Y. Harburg) and Lerner & Loewe’s 1947 musical fantasy BRIGADOON.
