| On page 1 of Network11 or Mystic Image Magick (the only IM sites where Pattern is available at this time), where you normally enter your URL, scroll down to format under which is a list of options. Choose the "Pattern" format with which you can create a number of different patterned backgrounds. This page is filled with samples of the available patterns. The names of the patterns are to be entered as one word with no breaks (See the list on my page 1 of Creating BGs at IM or click on "format" near the bottom of the opening page at Net11 IM). I had to break up the pattern names on this sample page in order to fit 5 to 7 samples in a row and not have size problems. Classic units type the name in the filename box; Plus units use the meta box. Classic users may type in the width and height they desire but Plus users must use the default width and height that is already typed in (320x240), and either crop or resize after hitting view. They are in PNM format (except for Checkerboard which is a GIF), so remember to output as JPG or GIF Some are transparent and would need to be output as gifs to keep them as such. |

| I have not yet explored what all may be possible to do with these patterns. I have played with Implode and both negative and positive implodes produce amazing and very different results with each pattern. Although these thumbnails are only 80x80 the patterns within are actual size. Some of them are extremely intense. Enlarging seems to eliminate the strobe effect some of them appear to have. Merely enlarging them can also create seemingly radical changes. In fact, enlarging &/or stretching practically makes some of them into a different pattern! By stretching I mean increasing only the length or only the width. For instance, increasing the length on the small fishscale pattern gives it a more scalloped look. To add color, composite with another image and/or use the "Paint" option at IM. If you've never used paint before, I have written a Paint Basics page. I have also added links to some excellent tutorials written by others of different ways to use paint and will be adding a few examples of my own. |
