MAKING a WEBPAGE/EMAIL SIG

HI ALL:
Alot of people are coming to me, frustrated, because they do not know how to make a Webpage or Email Signature for all of the very KEWL stuff they make.
Here is how to code a very simple one.
**I put the finished code in a textarea box below.
If i were to post these instructions, oftimes TAGS convert (change) into what the finshed result is, thus not enabling you to see the coding.
You can also CC&P the code I provided to give you a headstart on learning this. HOWEVER, you should not depend on using it whenever you need a Webpage because that way you will not learn for yourselves how/why about the coding.

FIRST...
we are going to need a TEXTAREA that we name, put our code on, save.
In your Filemanager, look for a place that says "CREATE FILE" (pages are called FILES in your account)
the next page that will come up should be a small TEXTAREA
(maybe a prompt asking you to give your Webpage a name)
**pages will need to have .html as their trailer name. You can use any words before that but NO SPACES INBETWEEN followed by the .html MYFIRSTWEBPAGE.html
(there are some characters you can use ie. dashes, periods, but that is about it so another choice would be)
MY-FIRST-WEBPAGE.html

***the FINAL PAGE will have a URL consisting of NAME OF YOUR ACCOUNT/DIRECTORY NAME (if you put it in one)/NAME OF PAGE ie.http://scarletimagery.com/-LESSONS/MYFIRSTWEBPAGE.html HIT SAVE and then you will have T.H.E. TEXTAREA for all of that SPECIAL NEW CODING you create.
if you are making an EMAIL SIGNATURE, use all of these same instructions. GO TO MAILBOX. HIT "SETTINGS". HIT "SIGNATURE". There will be your TEXTAREA.
make sure that the HTML TAG is ALL THE WAY at the top.
HIT SAVE after you code and you are done.

MAKING A WEBPAGE

Before we start, some rules of thumb that will make more sense to you once the code begins. *MAKE THE TAGS AND PARAMETERS SMALL LETTERS IE. html, body,img src, width,height *USE QUOTATION MARKS AROUND PARAMETERS. IE. width="200", size="5" *This is a BASIC WEBPAGE. If you are doing it in the group, please stick to the skeletal formula ONLY. NO TABLES - TAG= the instruction that you give the browser as to how to interpret your code and display it. They usually contain a bracket at each end, one OPEN and then one CLOSING. Depending on what the Tag is, some will also other parameters which you can add to adjust the "behavior" of what the Tag is meant to do,,,ie. a height or width of an image (some tags, like the FONT TAG require a closing tag which will look like this Your tag will need a name which is the COMMAND it is giving your puter, telling it what it is that it came upon and also what to do with it ALL Tags need to be in their own "section" The name of the Tag and it's parameters (if any) will go inside of that "section" The "section" will always begin with an OPENING BRACKET, NAME OF TAG, PARAMETERS (if any), CLOSING BRACKET - BRACKETS= They will look like this < pointing to the left is the OPENING TAG BRACKET. > pointing to the right is the CLOSING TAG BRACKET Your TAG will look something like this <NAME OF TAG parameters="?"> **most file managers, once you CREATE A FILE will bring up your TEXTAREA to put your code on ALREADY WITH an opening html tag, opening body tag, closing body tag, closing html tag.You will have to see if it has these. If not, below will explain how to make yours. - OPENING HTML TAG= This will start out your page. <html> (isn't this easy?) **OPTIONAL - HEAD TAG- That is there to flag what is in the title tag. ie. If Google has their spies out there, you DEFINITELY want them to find you and add your Webpage to their collection of billions of others so try to code these OPENING HEAD TAG <head> - TITLE TAG= In your Status bar (lower left hand corner of screen) will tell you NAME OF PAGE you are on IF the TITLE TAG is made and fllled. Since you are making your new Webpage, when everyone sees it you want them to know what it is, right? Whatever you put between TITLE TAGS will be displayed in the status bar. OPENING TITLE TAG <title>"MY FIRST WEBPAGE" </title>CLOSING TITLE TAG **need to close off this section of information in order to start your page OFFICIALLY so this goes here ENDING HEAD TAG </head> - BODY TAG= The BODY TAG can have alot of parameters in it, offering a variety of options for your page. The BASIC need to have parameters inside would be: BGCOLOR which is "background color" TEXT which is color of font (wherever you code the COLOR parameter in a FONT TAG this will automatically be overridden) **NOTE: In the BODY TAG color of font is stipulated with TEXT= parameter BUT in the FONT TAG color of font is stipulated by COLOR= parameter (no parameter stipulated in FONT TAG, BODY TAG FONT COLOR will preside options are:: LINK= color of links VLINK= color of visited link (you already went there so don't bother...) BACKGROUND= here you can actually put the URL of a background to cover your whole page. Kewl, eh? LOGO= If a viewer brings up your page. you can add a page which distinguishes that this is yours. It will show up in their Recents keys , Favorite Folders. Even Kewler...:-) <body bgcolor="black" text="white" link="lightblue" vlink="lawngreen"> - CENTER TAG= You usually are going to want to CENTER all of that good schtuff being put on your page so we have to start by telling the browser to CENTER everything. This has a CLOSING CENTER TAG so items inbetween these two will be centered <center> - LINE BREAK= Your text/display does not automatically drop down unless you come to the end of your screen size. You must stipulate SPACES between items. (ie. if you have a heading on the top of the page and then you want to put your text next, you must stipulate LINE BREAKS, one per line of your layout.) code a heading CREATIVE WRITING then code however many lines down you want your image to show up (as a rule of thumb, you should have at least 3 line breaks INBETWEEN major items. browsers load pages faster if items are not real close together) 3 LINE BREAKS= - FONT TAG= You can default to what color is in the TEXT field of the BODY tag, therefore not adding a COLOR parameter in the FONT TAG or you can stipulate whatever color you want your font , at that place, to be adding COLOR parameter WHATEVER You can also go with the default size of your Internet, usually size 4 or you can stipulate what size you want your font to be in that particular FONT TAG MY FIRST WEBPAGE There are various types of FONTS you can stipulate. = BOLD FONT this goes in front of FONT TAG and CLOSING BOLD after FONT TAG. MY FIRST WEBPAGE = ITALICIZED FONT this goes in front of FONT TAG and CLOSING ITALICIZED after FONT TAG MY FIRST WEBPAGE <tt> = TELETYPE FONT this goes in front of FONT TAG and CLOSING TELETYPE after FONT TAG <tt>MY FIRST WEBPAGE</tt> You can use thesa effects together too. ie. FONT that is BOLD AND ITALICIZED would be coded MY FIRST WEBPAGE **we close tags in OPPOSITE order than how they are opened - IMAGE TAG= In order to code your beautiful Image you made, you have the option of stipulating the HEIGHT (which will proportionately default the width) or the WIDTH (which will proportionately default the HEIGHT or you can stipulate BOTH <img src="URL OF IMAGE" height="360" width="460"> (no closing tag needed here) - FONT TAG AGAIN= You are going to want to exlain your Life or your Image or write your Poetry BUT don't forget,,,we need to change the size and perhaps color. **keep in mind what color you made the BACKGROUND in the BODY TAG so that your Font will be visible. We have a BLACK background, so I think HOTPINK will do nicely. Don't forget, we need to change the size too. HAIKU - MUSIC TAG= If you would like to entertain your viewer with lovely music, use this code <bgsound src="URL OF MIDI" autostart="true" loop="90" (depending on what browser you are using, Internet Explorer, Netscape, Webtv there seems to be different opinions whether to use BGSOUND SRC or EMBED SRC for them to recognize the code. It would be a good idea that you use both. I generally use BOTH or BGSOUND SRC which is recognized by most browsers) - ENDING TAGS= Just like you have to put an ending tag with some other Tags (yuu have to know which ones...are you having fun yet? lolol) YOU MUST put an ending tag to your page code (in reverse order) Don't forget, we centered everything so will need CLOSE CENTER= </center> Don't forget, we created the body so we will need CLOSE BODY= </body> Don't forget, we created the HTML so we will need CLOSE HTML= </html> ========================================= this is what it will look like before you add options: <html> <head> <title>MAKING A WEBPAGE</title> </head> <body text="?" bgcolor="?" link="?" vlink="?"> <bgsound src="URL OF MIDI" autostart="true" loop="80"> <center>  <img src="URL OF IMAGE" height=F"?" width="?" align="left">  YOUR NAME WHATEVER <img src="URL OF IMAGE" height="?" width="?"> WHATEVER ELSE </center> </body> </html>
There are other parameters to use, ie. in the FONT TAG but I will have to add later.
