THE DEAD HATE THE LIVING

PLOT

A group of young film makers are making a zombie movie in an old abandoned warehouse. The crew finds a weird contraption and somehow turn it on. The machine turns out to be the gateway of the land of the dead. Now the crew must fight for their lives.

REVIEW

I wasnt expecting alot from a Full Moon released zombie movie, but I was wrong.
Good acting, great makeup and cool looking zombies all help along the movie.
The plot is simple as to be expected. Also worthy of note is the good camera work.
The down side to this movie is the lack of zombies. We dont see any till about 50 minutes into the movie, and when we do see zombies, There aren't that many. Also the computer generated effects of electricity and fire are super bad.

PIECES

PLOT

A child is putting togeather a puzzle of a naked woman, his mother walks in a trashes the puzzles and yells at the kid. 40 years later, the grown up kid is hunting down real woman and hacking them with a chainsaw to complete his actual puzzle of real woman.

REVIEW

Bad points: crap acting, far to many drawn out parts, boring story, characters I could care less about, bad dubbing job.
Good points: lots 'o gore, good surprise ending.
This movie doesn't work at all. I could hardly watch it all the way through and if I dont like it, there's a serious problem cause, I like low budget slashers, but not this one at all!

THE LAST BROADCAST

PLOT

Two cable access show hosts hire a claimed psychic to go out in the New Jersey pines to do a live webcast searching for the Jersey Devil. Soon the police find the bodies of the hosts and one survivor, the psychic. What happened that night in the woods? <>Did the psychic kill the hosts, or was it the Jersey Devil?

REVIEW

Another Blair Witch type movie that came out before the blair witch, much like Legend of Chupacabra, and Cannibal Holocaust.
Unlike those movies, this movie succeeds in boring me to death.
This "horror" movie is merely clips of people who knew the victims and footage of the night in the woods. The footage is nothing but mindless walking in the woods, and bickering. The ending defies all logic and is stupid.
What was strange to me was all throughout the movie all the "action" scenes were shot handheld from the point of view of the camera man, but the ending decides to become an actual movie and use camera angles on the action and the people/person involved. Odd!

REDNECK ZOMBIES

PLOT

A highly toxic chemical is being transported by the military. On the trip the barrel of toxic chemicals falls out of the truck and into the greasy hands of some rednecks that use the barrell and its contents for their new moonshine. The redneck community drinks this new moonshine and soon the whole population have become redneck zombies. This does not sit well with some disoriented campers whacked out on acid. What will happen?

REVIEW

Not as good as I had hoped. and I hoped it would be a great fun cheap movie. Yes it was cheap but it wasn't fun at all.
Shot on video, the movie gives off a weird vibe when watched, Its hard to explain, but watching this quality video gives off a dark weird feeling, I have no idea why but it does.
The zombies are few if any till near the end, and when we do see them, they look horrible, and a few zombies' makeup can be seen peeling/falling off. The way the campers deal with the zombies in the end is .....well...... far beyond lame. and the "acid" scene is out of place and stupid.
I usually love crap movies, but this one falls somewhere between horrid and duller than 45 hours of footage of the pope sleeping.
Wow! ... this is one of Troma's more famous titles, but this is below even Troma's standards of cheapness.

ST. FRANCISVILLE EXPERIMENT

PLOT

A film maker, a psychic, historian and ghost hunter are hired to spend the night in an old estate in St. Francisville, Louisianna. The house is supposedly haunted by tortured slaves that were experimented and brutalized by a prominant lady during the civil war era. What they find in the house that night changed them forever.

REVIEW

Another movie that at first glance will be compared to The Last Broadcast and Blair Witch. Using the supposedly "real" footage of the crew from that night. This movie, like the others has interviews before the actual event, But unlike the others the interviews are at a minumum and we get into the haunted house pretty quickly. Although there aren't alot of jump out of your seat scares, the whole movie has a creepy unsettling feeling, that just gets worse (in a good way) as the movie goes on and the crew experience more and more odd things. Watch this one by yourself and in the dark.

THE ICE CREAM MAN

PLOT

A young boy watches as his hero the Ice Cream King is killed during a drive by shooting. Fast forward a few decades and that once little boy has become the Ice Cream Prince, with mysterious frozen treats. But the new ice cream man has a history of mental illness where he can't have a bad day, only happy happy days. Well he has a bad day and nothing after that will be the same.

REVIEW

A movie with that plot should be fun, really fun. Sadly this movie isn't very much fun at all. Clint Howard stars in his biggest and best role to date as the ice cream man. He is the only saving factor of the whole movie, some scenes you feel sorry for him and the next you want him to get caught. Not much action till late into the movie, there are cheap special effects (eye ball ice cream) and some good ones (all the decapitated heads look somewhat real). Ice Cream Man is a good summer movie if you have low standards.

THE BRAIN

PLOT

"Independant Thinking" is a hot new talk show starring Dr. Anthony Blake, but as the shows rating begin to soar, so does the murder and suicide rate of its viewers. What they dont know is that Dr. Blake is teamed up with an alien brain and plans to gain control of all humanity

REVIEW

It's a shame this movie isn't more popular, because it deserves to be. Not really an original concept of alien brain washing, but it doesn't matter when a movie is entertaining.
The characters arent really worth caring about, but the gem of the movie is the brain itself, as we see it grow and eat people left and right, Now that's entertainment!

WISHMASTER

PLOT

An ancient statue is crushed, to reveal a priceless gem stone. Inhabiting this gem stone is an evil Djinn. When he is unleashed into our world he can turn your most desirable fantasies into your worst nightmares.

REVIEW

One of the best horror movies of the 90's. I'm not just saying that because of the high blood and guts content either. Fast pased, and easy to watch.
Andrew Divoff who plays the djinn and his human counterpart is perfect. His voice and movement sells the evil djinn. the cameos of other horror icons such as Robert Englund, Kane Hodder and Tony Todd, only make this movie all the more watchable.
The makeup and special effects are so good you forget your watching a moderatly budgeted movie. The director of this movie has said he wanted to pack as much excitment, terror, and shocking moments as he could into it, and i say he did that and more. RECOMMENDED.

WISHMASTER 2

PLOT

THE EVIL djinn gets re-relEased from his jewel prison by a young woman and he starts his reign of terror all over again. Needing 1001 souls to grant his master 3 wishes, and after the completion of the 3rd wish, the race of evil djinn will be let loose into the earth.

REVIEW

Now this is crap. If you've read my review for the original Wishmaster, you'll know how much I love that movie. This subpar sequel is a direct to video piece of junk. I have no hatred for direct to video horror movies at all, as a matter of fact, some of my favorites are DTV, like jack frost 1-2.
Now I know they had a much smaller budget than the first movie but this was ridiculous. The computer effects at the end were horrid and laughable. This movie even contradicted the original in a many of ways, like the djinn has out lived all the sorcerors and outlasted all the forgotten magic spells to trap him in the jewel but lo and behold they find one. Stay away from this. Hopefully parts 3 and 4 are much better when they come out. The only semi saving factor is Andrew Divoffs acting. the djinns voice is hypnotic. but unfortunately, the djinn in part 2 is reduced to a Freddy Kreuger clone, spitting out "witty" one liners. Sad!

NIGHT SCHOOL

PLOT

A killer whose M.O. is ritutalistic decapitation finds his victims at the distinguished Wendell College, where young woman take night classes. The police lieutenant whose assigned the case has nothing to go on except the heads of the victims are always found in water, be it a duck pond, or bucket of water. How can he find the murderer and keep the woman safe?

REVIEW

This movie isn't ground breaking in any way. Its more of a horror / mystery as we have to guess the killers identity. One good point though is how the director keeps us guessing through suggestive camera angles. This movie came out in 1980 right around the begining of the slasher boom in the 80's and its easy to see why it is almost forgotten, no memorable characters or killing scenes. The end has a nice, but predictable plot twist when the movie switches from a slasher to an action mystery, It just doesnt fit with the rest of the movies mood.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE

PLOT

On Valentine's Day 1960, A group of men were finishing up a long days work in the mine shaft. Two senior supervisors decide to take off work early to get ready for the Valentine's Day dance, leaving 6 miners still deep in the mines. 6 weeks go by and finally the rubble is unearthed, only one survivor is found, one year later, the survivor, who has escaped from a mental hospital, comes back and kills the two supervisors only to be taken back into custody, Vowing to return if the town ever celebrates Valentine's Day again, its been 20 years since the last dance, will he come back for more blood?

REVIEW

One of the better slashers from the early eighties. Decent acting and a decent script help this movie, as does a cool looking killer. There's a little suspense and tension, but nothing to get you jumping out of your seat.

DEATH SPA

PLOT

Mike is putting his life together after his wife's tragic death. All he has left is his health club that he owns. He seemes to have it all now that the club has made him alot of money, he also has a new love in his life, but when people start getting hurt and disappeaering from the health club, it seems someone doesnt want Mike to succeed.

REVIEW

Not great, but far from the worst movie i've seen. Its a cross between a 80's slasher and a haunted house type movie, but in this case a haunted spa. Not alot of gore and guts but the few scenes of death are good. How can a movie with Ken Foree (Peter from 'Dawn of the Dead'), be all that bad?

CUT

PLOT

The horror movie 'Hot Blooded' is stopped mid-production and never completed due to mysterious murders on set. Every time the unfinished print is viewed, people start dying and people say the film has a curse. 14 years after the movie stopped production a group of young film makers decide to finish it once and for all. After shooting commences, the cast and crew start to dissapear one by one. Who is responsible for these mishaps?

REVIEW

Not great, but pretty good. This Australian slasher movie stars Molly Ringwald (worst character ever) and Kylie Minogue. We don't get to learn much about the characters since they die off left and right. The kill scenes aren't very imaginative, but get the job done in pretty good fashion. You can tell the film makers are horror fans by mentions of other horror movies and stuff, which is kinda cool. The one thing that bugs me with this movie is the lack of explanation on a few things, Like how they kill the murderer, just didnt make sense. Also, are the new film makers high school students, college students or professionals? I dont think college students would buy the rights to a movie and hope to get the film in theatres, or would they? I dont know.
