Statcat's Dawn of the Mummy review at
Badmovies.org The Video Dead
1987

When a TV arrives by postal delivery at a drunk's house by mistake something very strange occurs. This television only plays one movie "Zombie Blood Nightmare." The man promptly shuts the TV off but it remains on until he finally pulls the plug. Later in the the night the zombies emerge from the TV and into the world. They kill the man and months later terrorize the new owners of the home and the whole town.
Straight to video easily describes this ridiculously original movie. The acting is very weak in some parts but who cares when you have a few zombies from a TV killing people with an Iron, chainsaw, and their own hands? The movie features some very goofy 80's pop music in parts and creative zombies such as a bride and a David Bowie look alike.

Zombie 90: Extreme Pestilence
1990

A chemical has been released and several people have become zombies. Its up to two men to face the undead and put an end to the epidemic.
Bad indeed, quite possibly the worst dubbing ever as it comes from Germany. The dubbing makes one of the main characters sound like a black pimp and the other like a high pitched weasel. I have come to the conclusion that they offered some bum on the street a bottle of cheap alcohol to do the dubbing because that's what it sounds like; it's hilarious. The scenes are very fake with tubes that shoot out blood being visible and dummy heads being nobbed off left and right. One scene features a zombie who attacks a baby doll and rips it apart. The ending makes absolutely no sense as does the whole movie with the main character being attacked by a zombie Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison. Maybe if your intoxicated you would truly get a kick out of this I would guess. Watch this shot on video film for laughs but thats about it.

Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things
1972

Alan and his crew of rookie actors have assembled on a burial Island for a visit. Alan plays a practical joke on all of his actors but the joke is on him as he does raise the dead after the chanting of some ancient words. Flesh-eating zombies arrise from the graveyard and attack the crew.
What made this movie was the atmosphere, it could never be recaptured again. It had the feeling of unique midnight graveyard set all over it. The makeup on the zombies is quite good and the actors pull through on their parts, especially Alan. Definitely a cheesy midnight movie to watch.

JUNK
2000

When a group of jewelry thieves meet up with their negotiators to do business they are swerved and attacked for what they stole. This transaction occurs at a place where they are testing a new chemical on the dead that works. Eventually this chemical is released after gun fire and soon hordes more of the living dead appear including one very strong female monster type zombie.
Excellent horror/action zombie film from Japan that I was excited about when I first heard about it on a website. The gore is plentiful and it follows the classic zombie, chemical plot. This movie features the same music from movies such as 'Zombi 3' in scenes. The best zombie film to come out in a few years hands down.

The Blind Dead Series

The Templars were an evil group of knights in the 13th century that totured and murdered victims for eternal life. The Templars were later executed by the angry townspeople and their bodies were left for the crows to pick out their eyes (changed in the second film to having their eyes burned out by fire during the executions.)

In the first film of the series Tombs of the Blind Dead , a group of people unsuspectingly awaken the Templar knights from their rest and are attacked. We learn that the Templars cannot see and only hunt by sound. The Templars also ride horses in several parts of the movie.

The second film Return of the Blind Dead features the Templars awakening again only this time on a celebration of their deaths which occured centuries ago. Again we witness the revenge of the knights.

The third film of the series, Horror of the Zombies takes a different route in the setting. This time a group of models in a fashion stunt are trapped out at sea on a speed boat. They stumble upon a ghost ship and soon find themselves being hacked away by the evil Templars.

The fourth and final movie of the series titled Night of the Seagulls or Night of the Death Cult, joins the Templars again at countryside terrorizing the village. Henry and Joan enter this world unsuspectingly and soon find themselves caught up in the terror.

Overall a very impressive and nicely made series by Amando de Ossorio. Some of the greatest Spanish horror films ever made. The Templars were a new type of zombie never really touched before. What made them memorible was the way they looked, rode their horses and attacked their victims. The atmosphere is great in all four of the films.

WILD ZERO
2000

Ace is a huge fan of a punk rock band named Guitar Wolf (who are an actual Japanese band that consist of Guitar Wolf (lead guitar/singer) Bass Wolf, and Drum Wolf.) Ace goes off to one of their concerts and after the show the band runs into a little trouble with the owner. He bolts into the room to stick up for his favorite band and becomes involved in the confrontation. He soon becomes blood brothers with Guitar Wolf after the showdown through a cut and rubbing of blood between hands. He is given a whistle and is told to use it whenever he is trouble.
During the recent time period a meteor crashed into the outskirts of Japan. UFO's tie into the mix and can be seen in the skys and distances around Japan. Many people in the country have become zombies because of the meteor for some reason. The country's people obviously aren't for the most part aware of the danger they are in for. Ace soon charts into a zombie infected territory, finds a love interest, and must call for help in the form of Guitar Wolf.
Very strange can describe this movie well. I'm not even sure if I understand every factor of it because of it's overall weirdness. We have a punk band who scream rock and roll a little too much, UFO's, stoners/robbers, a meteor, and zombies? Throw that in with a woman who is actually male (Ace's love interest. At first he is not aware of that big detail, but later comes together with her.) and you definitely have a movie that could never be made in the United States. The movie often features high speed camera segments when tension builds up. It also features a ton of zombies and many gory attacks which only add to it's fun. I like the film as it is a nice way to spend time and can't be described as usual in any way.
