From: MSN TV Member Emails
• What I do to get connected faster is block my calls. I turn the audible dialing on and keep calls blocked and presto — I'm online fast!
• I turn off Messenger when I'm answering e-mail and playing games. I also clear out all the e-mail in my Sent and Deleted folders every day. I find that my games are a lot faster and I get connected to sites faster also.
• When my MSN TV is slow in connecting or loading, I simply unplug the power cord in the back of the box and then plug it back in. Then a screen will pop up that says: "Have you moved?" I just press Yes, and this gives me a faster and less used line. Works every time.
• I hit the Option key 3 times and press the numbers 217 with the terminal off. Then I power on and press "Connect". This seems to give me a much stronger connection when the Web is running slow.
• If you've been to a site, and go to another, and then want to return to the previous site, hit the Recent key and click on the site. Hope this helps!
These are a few ways I enhance connection time:
• Last month, I read the "Latest News" about Utilities. I went into that page and cleared out "Cookies" after viewing the pages that had piled up. It made a tremendous difference in not only connecting, but also surfing the Web!
• I always sign off of the Web by hitting the Option key and then selecting "Hang Up" and then clicking off with the TV remote. When I'm ready to go back online all I need to do is click on the TV remote and click on the "Reconnect" button. This eliminates powering on and going through the entire process to get online. Most important is the fact that when it's necessary for me to get offline at an inconvenient time, I can click off and then return to the exact page I was working on.
• I turn on my WebTV early, (lots of times 3 am), and have no problem connecting. No one else is up at that time of night. I go to bed early and this has been my routine for about 3 years now.

CC&P is very helpful when you're coping an email, a Web page or simply editing as you're typing.
"CMD" KEY CODES:
"SHIFT" KEY CODES:
Shift key + Right-Arrow = Highlights one letter at a time going right
[The Left and Up Arrow keys can also be used.] |
|
The 1st step is to highlight what you want to Copy or Cut. You can either press and hold the "CMD" key, then press the "A" key which Highlights the entire page. Or, you can place your curser next to the text you want changed, press and hold the "Shift" key, then press one of the "Arrow" keys to highlight only the text you select. Once the text is highlighted you can Copy or Cut using the "CMD" key.
To Copy, press & hold the "CMD" key + the "C" key. This will Copy & Save the text you highlighted. To Cut, press & hold the "CMD" key + the "X" key. This will Cut & Save the text you highlighted. This is only used when you're editing your own text. It's also used to delete unwanted text. To Paste the text you just Copied or Cut, place your curser where you want to Paste the text, then press and hold the "CMD" key + the "V" key. To highlight certain parts of a Web page, press the "Find" key and type the 1st few words of what you want to copy, then press "Find on Page". Those words will be highlighted. Press & hold the "Shift" key + one of the "Arrow" keys until you have Highlighted everything you want to Copy. Press & hold the "CMD" key + the "C" key to Copy & Save the Highlighted text. Now you can Paste the text where you want by using the "CMD" key + the "V" key. NOTE: When editing, your browser will ONLY SAVE THE LAST TEXT you Copied or Cut. |

When sending an email to someone on WebTV, you can add words before the WebTV addy.
Example:
Instead of: name@webtv.net
Try typing: name@hello.webtv.com
[This ONLY works between WebTV users.] |

• Type or CC&P the text you want quoted in your email.
• Place your curser at the beginning of the 1st line of text.
• Type a ">" Less Than Symbol.
• Press & hold the "CMD" key, then press the "Right Arrow" key. This will take your curser to the end of the line.
• Press the "Return" key.
• You should be at the beginning of the 2nd line of text. Repeat the above steps for the rest of the lines of text you want to quote.
You may want to practice first, so send an email to yourself. You'll notice the text lines you quoted with the ">" Less Than Symbol are smaller as well as indented in your email. Also, the ">" symbols are gone.
There are Tools available to achieve the same effect which are time savers. Copy the text you want to quote, Paste it onto the screen of the Tool site, select "Quote" and CC&P the results. Below are two:
