Mythical “Fame" reputedly lived between earth and sky, never slept, always ready to sound her trademark-trumpet to herald news both day and night. With soaring wings and proffered wreath, our Fame represents the tradition of American Folk art at its finest. The Greco-Roman ideal, expressed in the classical revival, is represented in this reproduction of an antique weathervane. The Statue of Liberty in New York, which was erected in 1886, is another example of this classic icon. Our Fame is poised atop an orb, one leg lifted away like a Degas ballerina. The three dimensional figure, with outstretched arms holding her trumpet and a halo-like wreath, is completely hand made in distressed copper, patinated with traces of gold leaf, gold paint and patches of oxidation.
