Red Pagoda

Red Pagoda The aristocratic Italian author Carlo Dossi was a celebrated non-conformist. Being of sufficient means he indulged in building extravagant mansions, including one at Lake Como. Even though the house was enormous, with such features as a ballroom, library, studies, and enough guest rooms to start a boutique hotel… Dossi used to write in a large tent, set up in the shade of a centuries-old chestnut tree. Here he wrote his prose and plays in the several different classical languages he had mastered. Always writing at the same table, lit elegant red lacquered lanterns. A bronze capped crystal inkwell completed this somewhat eccentric but tasteful ensemble.
