He wrote poetry at age eight, taught himself to play guitar, and joined a series of rock and skiffle bands. After leaving school at 16, he worked a variety of jobs, including laborer, clerk, and bartender before moving to Australia in 1969 to work as an accountant. He soon connected with a folk club in Canberra and became immersed in the country's acoustic music scene. From his home near the southern Australian city of Adelaide, Eric Bogle has become one of Australia's eminent singer/songwriters with many internationally popular songs.
