Put your hand in the hand
of the Man who stilled the water,
Put your hand in the hand
of the Man who calmed the sea;
And take a look at yourself
and you can look at others differently,
By putting your hand in the hand
of the Man from Galilee.

Everytime I look into the Holy Book
I want to tremble,
When I read about the part where
the Carpenter cleared the temple;
For the buyers and the sellers were
no different fellers than I profess to be,
And it causes me shame to know
we're not the people we should be.

So put your hand in the hand
of the Man who stilled the water,
Put your hand in the hand
of the Man who calmed the sea;
And take a look at yourself
and you can look at others differently,
By putting your hand in the hand
of the Man from Galilee.

Momma taught me how to pray
before I reached the age of seven,
When I'm down on my knees
that's when I'm close to heaven;
And Daddy lived his life,
two kids and a wife,
well you do what you can do,
But he taught me just enough of
what it takes to get me through.

So put your hand in the hand
of the Man who stilled the water,
Put your hand in the hand
of the Man who calmed the sea;
And take a look at yourself
and you can look at others differently,
By putting your hand in the hand
of the Man from Galilee.
By putting your hand in the hand
of the Man from Galilee.

Notes:
¹ Ron Hynes was a friend of Gene MacLellan and once said of him: "He was a really talented man who only cared about songs. He didn't care about the music business, and that makes the industry people frustrated."
² Gene MacLellan's hit spiritual was first recorded by Canadian singer Anne Murray as track #7 on her third studio album Honey, Wheat and Laughter issued in 1970 on Capitol Records. The most popular version was recorded in 1971 as the title track to their debut album by the Toronto rock band Ocean. This song remains one of MacLellan's most successful songs, along with Snowbird. It has been recorded in more than 25 countries by more than 100 artists, including Elvis Presley, Joan Baez, and Bing Crosby with Count Basie, making it a standard of the gospel repertoire.
