The Great Labrador (Alonzo Glover) video

Around the last of May, nineteen sixty-four,
I was with my grandfather on the way to Labrador;
I was only thirteen and not quite a man,
Wanted to be a fisherman so I took that stand.

I dropped out of school with only grade nine,
Education was far from my mind;
Wanted to be like my father and the life he adored,
To be a fisherman on the Great Labrador.

Oh, these were the days when we sailed the sea,
Nothing else in this world meant more to me;
Oh, these were the days of years before,
There was no life like on that Great Labrador.

There were some great boats from miles around,
Arthur and Herb Glover in the Gladys with chums;
Some of the captains, some hard or more,
I miss while fishing on the Great Labrador.

Like Skipper Robert Pickins with a crew of ten,
George Ansil and Johnny Pickins
they sure were great men;
There was Skipper Jimmy Rogers
and Abe Rogers, too,
Abe Keith from Dover, just to mention a few.

These were the days when we sailed the sea,
Nothing else in this world meant more to me;
Oh, these were the days of years before,
There was no life like on that Great Labrador.

When I think of the men who fished on my boat,
Edward Cullen showed me how to touch rope;
Tim Brown and Jake Phelps were great engineers,
And young George Glover, well, he had no fears.

Victor and Gord and Angus our cook,
Bees and Bert Burkey were the best on the hook;
Ran Nupp and May Puck and also El Moore,
I wish we were back on that Great Labrador.
And I got to go back there on that Great Labrador.
