How well I remember December '88,
When Uncle Charlie Chrisman
made the Christmas cake;
He made the Christmas cake, there is no doubt,
But what he should have put in I think he left out.

'Twas well up in December,
and Christmas all in the air,
Everything was ready, he even had his beer;
But suddenly at boil it two were big to take,
Uncle Charlie realized there was no Christmas cake.

What is Christmas without the Christmas cake?
We boil it at six, and I cannot wait;
I'll get up real early and start around eight,
And by tomorrow evening
I'll have my Christmas cake.

While Charlie was busy mixing up his cake,
He picked up a glass, a sip he did take;
From the homebrew keg, sitting on the floor,
Sometimes you couldn't see
the windows or the door.

While sipping his drink, he reached for a pack,
What he thought was dates was Violet's Ex-Lax;
Then he reached out, a pan for to grease,
What he thought was baking powder
was a pack of yeast.

What is Christmas without the Christmas cake?
Boil it at six, and I cannot wait;
I'll get up real early and start around eight,
And by tomorrow evening
I'll have my Christmas cake.

After an hour he pulled down the oven door,
Taking out the cake, he let out a roar:
In the name of God, what have I done?
Looks like there's two cakes for the price of one.

The cake was cut up and put on the table,
Three or four had a piece, even the cat and Mabel;
In no time at all they realized too late,
The Ex-Lax were working in Uncle Charlie's cake.

What is Christmas without the Christmas cake,
But don't mix the Ex-Lax up with your dates;
And if your drinking homebrew, my advice to take,
Stay away from baking, especially Christmas cake.
Stay away from baking, especially Christmas cake.
