Dear Old Newfoundland (Gord Companion)

If you go to Newfoundland,
remember me to Clare,
Tell her I still think of her
and all the folks back there;
Although I love the city life,
I'm still a Newfie boy,
To walk again the same old streets
would fill my heart with joy.

The fishermen in the little boats
that sail out to sea,
Will always hold a special place
within my memory;
If you should see tears in my eyes,
I'm sure you'll understand,
It's just that I'm so proud to be
from dear old Newfoundland.

The green grass and the roses
growing wild there and so free,
The houses, like old shantytown,
mean sweet home to me;
If God should stand before me now,
I'd shake him by the hand,
For making such a place on earth
like dear old Newfoundland.

The fishermen in the little boats
that sail out to sea,
Will always hold a special place
within my memory;
If you should see tears in my eyes,
I'm sure you'll understand,
It's just that I'm so proud to be
from dear old Newfoundland.
