Newfie Rap (Bobby Evans)

We are Newfoundlanders.

Now Tobin said, "Enough is enough."
And, "I know that the winters are gonna be tough.
Now Clyde and I we do agree,
That a foreign trawler should be stopped at sea."

Newfie rap! HEY!

We got the highest taxes in the land,
No wonder we're drinkin' that contraband;
With a twelve percent as a GST,
I wonder what's really gonna happen to we.

We are Newfoundlanders,
Oh, oh, we sure got it tough;
And we ain't got a whole lotta luck.

Now me brother is a carpenter,
And me cousin is a plumber,
They hardly got any work at all this summer;
But me buddy is a fisherman,
An awful lot ashore,
He's not allowed to go and do the fish any more.

Newfie rap! HEY!

Now the caplin that we're gettin'
is so doggone small,
Soon there'll be ne'er one left at all;
We got no fish but we got a drop of oil,
It's enough to make a man's blood boil.

We are Newfoundlanders,
Oh, oh, we sure got it tough (Sure got it tough);
And we ain't got a whole lotta luck.

Now I tried to get a job at the Bull Iron site,
I used to lie awake night after night;
But my buddy told me it was just a waste of time,
'Cause the fellers from the mainland
are first in line.

Newfie rap! HEY!

Now the selling of the power
has caused a lot of talk,
Most people want Clyde to take a little walk;
Just when a few bucks just come our way,
Old blue eyes wants to give it all away.

We are Newfoundlanders,
Oh, oh, we sure got it tough (Sure got it tough);
And we ain't got a whole lotta luck.

We are Newfoundlanders,
Oh, oh, we sure got it tough (Sure got it tough);
And we ain't got a whole lotta luck.

Now we Newfies are really a unique kind of folk,
We're always at the center of joke after joke;
But I really, really think
as the time comes to pass,
That we fellers on the Rock
are gonna have the last laugh.

We are Newfoundlanders,
Oh, oh, we sure got it tough (Sure got it tough);
And we ain't got a whole lotta luck.

We are Newfoundlanders,
Yeah, and we sure got it tough (Sure got it tough);
And we ain't got a whole lotta luck.

New... New... Newfie rap! Yo, yo, yo!
What are you at, old man?

Check it out... Newfie rap!

From Wikipedia:
Brian Vincent Tobin PC (Queen's Privy Council for Canada) born 1954 in Stephenville, NL - Canadian businessman and former politician who served as the sixth Premier of Newfoundland from 1996 to 2000. Tobin was also a prominent Member of Parliament and served as a Cabinet Minister in Jean Chrétien's Liberal government.
Clyde Kirby Wells QC (Queen's Counsel) born 1937 in Buchans Junction, NL - fifth Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador (1989-1996). The Wells administration reformed the province's educational system, implemented far-reaching economic reforms, concluded an agreement to develop the province's first offshore oil field and coped with the consequences of the collapse of cod stocks off the coast of the province all at the time of a severe economic recession. Wells was appointed to the Supreme Court of Newfoundland (Court of Appeal) in 1998, and was appointed Chief Justice in 1999, a post from which he retired in 2009. He remains a supernumerary justice of the appellate court.
GST (Goods and Services Tax) - multi-level value added tax introduced in Canada on January 1, 1991, by then Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and his finance minister Michael Wilson. The GST replaced a hidden 13.5% Manufacturers' Sales Tax (MST); Mulroney claimed the GST was implemented because the MST was hindering the manufacturing sector's ability to export competitively. The introduction of the GST was very controversial. The GST rate was 5%, effective January 1, 2008.

From the Dictionary of Newfoundland English:
Caplin - small, iridescent deep-water fish (Mallotus villosus) like a smelt which, followed by the cod, appears inshore during June and July to spawn along the beaches, and is netted for bait, for manuring the fields, or dried, salted, smoked or frozen for eating.
