The ladies of the harem of
the court of King Caractacus,
Were just passing by
(All together now!)
The ladies of the harem of
the court of King Caractacus,
Were just passing by;
Now, the ladies of the harem of
the court of King Caractacus,
Were just passing by,
Now, the ladies of the harem of
the court of King Caractacus,
Were just passing by.

Now, the noses on the faces
of the ladies of the harem
Of the court of King Caractacus,
were just passing by,
Now, the noses on the faces
of the ladies of the harem
Of the court of King Caractacus,
were just passing by;
Now, the noses on the faces
of the ladies of the harem
Of the court of King Caractacus,
were just passing by,
Yes, the noses on the faces
of the ladies of the harem
Of the court of King Caractacus,
were just passing by.

Now, the boys who put the powder on
the noses of the faces of the ladies
Of the harem of the court of King Caractacus,
were just passing by,
Now, the boys who put the powder on
the noses of the faces of the ladies
Of the harem of the court of King Caractacus,
were just passing by;
Now, the boys who put the powder on
the noses of the faces of the ladies
Of the harem of the court of King Caractacus,
were just passing by,
Now, the boys who put the powder on
the noses of the faces of the ladies
Of the harem of the court of King Caractacus,
were just passing by.

Now, the fascinating witches
who put the scintilating stitches
in the britches of the boys
Who put the powder on the noses
of the faces of the ladies
of the harem of the court of King Caractacus,
were just passing by,
Now, the fascinating witches
who put the scintilating stitches
in the britches of the boys
Who put the powder on the noses
of the faces of the ladies
of the harem of the court of King Caractacus,
were just passing by;
Now, the fascinating witches
who put the scintilating stitches
in the britches of the boys
Who put the powder on the noses
of the faces of the ladies
of the harem of the court of King Caractacus,
were just passing by,
Now, the fascinating witches
who put the scintilating stitches
in the britches of the boys
Who put the powder on the noses
of the faces of the ladies
of the harem of the court of King Caractacus,
were just passing by.

Now, if you want to take some pictures
of the fascinating witches
who put the scintilating stitches
in the britches of the boys
who put the powder on the noses
Of the faces of the ladies
of the harem of the court of King Caractacus...

...You're too bloody late!
(Too bloody late?)
Because they just... passed... by!

####.... Rolf Harris [b.1930] of Bassendean, Perth, Western Australia, Order of the British Empire (CBE), Member of The Order of Australia (AM) ....####
Originally recorded as a single release in 1964 by Rolf Harris, Australian/British musician, singer-songwriter, composer, television personality, broadcaster and painter. His song was a hit in Australia and also charted in the US and UK (Columbia Records). That same year Harris recorded a studio album with this song as the title track (Epic Records).

This variant was recorded by The Four Ways [1966-1978] with Ron Hicks, lead vocalist and bass guitar, Joan Harvey, vocalist, Brian Small, drummer, and Rod Rumble, lead guitar. (Gettin' Around, trk#6, 1974 LP, Boot Records, Toronto, Ontario, nominated for a Juno Award as country group of the year 1976).

Notes gleaned from the memories of Rhonda Hicks:
After migrating to Vancouver and Toronto, Australians Ron Hicks and his wife Joan Harvey, along with their daughter Rhonda moved to St John's NL, shortly after their only album was released in 1974. The band performed for NTV Television in 1975, and Ron wrote a music column for The Newfoundland Herald until 1977. The family managed a converted lighthouse on the St John's waterfront with a floor for private parties, a floor for a bar called the Anchor Pub, and the first floor for the Galley Restaurant. The band performed their last gig at the light on New Year's Eve, 1978. In 1979, Ron Hicks stayed in St John's to manage the The Rose And Thistle, a small pub with a yellow awning on Water Street, while Joan and Rhonda moved to Toronto. The couple reunited in the mid-90s for a gala at the Arts and Culture Center in St John's where they were backed by Alan Doyle on guitar who was just getting started with the band Great Big Sea. Ron eventually returned to Australia where he passed away following a stroke in 2008.

From Wikipedia:
Caractacus or Caratacus - first century British chieftain who led the resistance against the Romans. In AD51, after his final defeat, members of his family were captured, and he escaped north to the Brigantes, leaving his brothers to surrender the men. He was turned over to the Romans by Cartimandua, queen of the Brigantes, but was pardoned by Emperor Claudius after a moving plea for mercy before the Roman Senate. Afterward he was allowed to live in peace with his family in Rome as a Roman client king.
