My Father's Boat (Sim And Friends) video

The sun climbed o'er the hilltop
as he walked out to the shed,
With his saw and chisel, a vision in his head;
Father cut the timbers and
caulked them all by hand,
He said, "There friends,
the finest boat in all of Newfoundland."

The winter wind blew cold
as he caulked the wood inside,
He worked for hours on every piece,
a vision in his eyes;
Sewing up the mains'l and rigging out the mast,
Careful strokes from the paint brush,
and she was done at last.

She takes me home to the rocky cove
with people dear to me,
They leave in tiny boats
to make a living from the sea;
Back to those simple times I knew so long ago,
My father's boat will take me when I go.

I'm living in Alberta for almost half my life,
I make a decent living
for my children and my wife;
My father's boat is with me
sometimes when life's too much,
I slip across the gangway to keep myself in touch.

I gaze into her prism, her universe of glass,
That little boat will always
take me back to the past;
Well, she's trapped in a bottle
to my memory she sails,
Along the shores of Newfoundland
in sunny skies and days.

She takes me home to the rocky cove
with people dear to me,
They leave in tiny boats
to make a living from the sea;
Back to those simple times I knew so long ago,
My father's boat will take me when I go.

Yes, my father's boat will take me when I go.
