They talk about tradesmen, mechanics and such,
Bricklayers and the loggers are mentioned so much;
But you don't hear too much 'bout sailors from home,
They battle the sea and they never return.
Brave men like you never have seen in your life,
Make a livin' at sea for his kids and his wife;
No matter what hardships these brave men go through,
I tell you, my son, it takes guts and nerves, too.
Our sailors are strong and our sailors are brave,
So many good men met a watery grave;
Our sailors, I'm told, are the best in the land,
They come from my province, to the old New Founde Land.
I remember a story 'bout ten years ago,
'Bout a ship called the Blue Mist I'm sure you all know;
There were bad, blinding snowstorms she couldn't get through,
The Blue Mist was lost and all of her crew.
There's so many stories that many could tell,
'Bout sailors from Newfie that have gone through sheer hell;
They battle the ocean from the east to the west,
The job that they're doing is what they love best.
Our sailors are strong and our sailors are brave,
So many good men met a watery grave;
Our sailors, I'm told, are the best in the land,
They come from my province, to the old New Founde Land.
You've all heard the story 'bout the seal hunt each year,
So many protestors at time do appear;
They put down our sailors for killing the seal,
But seal meat and onions is a hell of a meal.
And now I must finish with tears in my eyes,
I pray for those sailors who've all lost their lives;
And for the dear loved ones that they left behind,
God bless you, all sailors from dear Newfoundland.
Our sailors are strong and our sailors are brave,
So many good men met a watery grave;
Our sailors, I'm told, are the best in the land,
They come from my province, to the old New Founde Land.
Dee dee dee der, dee dee dah, dee day dah day dah.
Spoken: Well now, boys, the boat she's ready,
I think we should all get aboard her, right?
(Cheers and shouts in general agreement.)
