Helpless Memories (Outport Outlaws) video

I sit alone by a window,
I think of days gone by;
Where did the years go?
They say time really flies.

See the wind blowin' in the leaves,
And people passin' by;
See the loneliness in their eyes,
Sometimes it makes me cry.

Wish I could go there again,
To a place that's seldom seen;
Helpless memories,
Some are blind to me.

Home is where the heart is,
Refuge from the pain;
Fog is slowly movin' in,
Nothing seems the same.

I see your face in my memory,
But it fades as time goes on;
You left without sayin' goodbye,
And I don't remember why.

I wish I could go there again,
To a place that's seldom seen;
Helpless memories,
Some are blind to me.

Left without sayin' goodbye,
And I don't remember why.

Helpless memories,
Some are blind to me.

Helpless memories,
Some are blind to me.

Notes by the Outport Outlaws:
We wrote this song based on what it must be like to suffer from Alzheimer's Disease. We don't have any personal experience with Alzheimer's, but have always thought about how devastating it must be to forget everything you've done in life, people you've met and loved, places you've been, and things you've seen.

How many hours do people with this debilitating disease sit alone, staring off at unfamiliar surroundings. How they must wish to regain the memory of their past. Home is supposed to be a safe place where people are surrounded by loved ones. How can it be considered a safe place if they don't recognize the people there? Some memories come and go. Some people look familiar but they're not really sure if they know them or not. People come and go and they are not sure if they are someone they know and love or if they are complete strangers.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to listen to our song. The next time you hear of someone suffering with Alzheimer's, please don't pass them off as just somebody who doesn't remember. Think of them as people who once loved, laughed, cried, and lived!
