There's a winding road that leads to Cape St. Mary,
On the Cape Shore, and sometimes I often dream,
Of a one-room school where we all went together,
There were forty classmates, one a beauty queen.
The one I'm speaking of her name was Mary,
I remember my last year when school did close;
She's much prettier and just a little older,
To me she'll always be our Cape Shore Rose.
Mary's gone to heaven, there is no need to weep,
God touched her with His hand, she closed her eyes and went to sleep;
So, goodbye Cape Shore Rose, you're with God's angel,
It won't matter now how strong the north winds blow;
The daisies they were spread along the Cape Shore,
To remind us all of you, our Cape Shore Rose.
As the saying goes, your home is where your heart is,
Throughout the Cape Shore here and the valleys 'neath the sky;
One night I dreamed I thought I heard her whisper,
"God set my soul at liberty to fly."
She left this world in peace, her journey's over,
And from now on there'll be no future woe;
Mary is a flower we'll all remember,
But Mary'll always be our Cape Shore Rose.
Mary's gone to heaven, there is no need to weep,
God touched her with His hand, she closed her eyes and went to sleep;
So, goodbye Cape Shore Rose, you're with God's angel,
It won't matter now how strong the north winds blow;
The daisies they were spread along the Cape Shore,
To remind us all of you, our Cape Shore Rose.
Mary's gone to heaven, there is no need to weep,
God touched her with His hand, she closed her eyes and went to sleep;
So, goodbye Cape Shore Rose, you're with God's angel,
It won't matter now how strong the north winds blow;
The daisies they were spread along the Cape Shore,
To remind us all of you, our Cape Shore Rose.
Mary Manning Power is still our Cape Shore Rose.
