Ashuanipi Wish (Labrador Black Spruce)

Please tell me, kind Spirit, why is it, there's a river that flows far away,
Oft times in my dreams I revisit, the banks of the Ashuanipi.

The Humber, the Exploits, the Gander, are all very well in their way,
But fishing these rivers in Springtime, can't compare to the Ashuanipi.

Champlain he once sailed the St. Lawrence, the MacKenzie is far far away,
The Missouri to the south of it beckons, but I'll stay on the Ashuanipi.

Fine fishing for lakers and brook trout, there's nothing like fishing all day,
In the Springtime the Ouananiche move out, to the pools of the Ashuanipi.

The Humber, the Exploits, the Gander, are all very well in their way,
But fishing these rivers in Springtime, can't compare to the Ashuanipi.

So grant me one wish now, kind Spirit, while my hair is thinning and grey,
To see her in my dreams and remember the beautiful Ashuanipi.

And when the grim tyrant draws closer, and the shadow of death passes me,
May all that is left of me stay here, and repose on the Ashuanipi.

The Humber, the Exploits, the Gander, are all very well in their way,
But fishing these rivers in Springtime, can't compare to the Ashuanipi.
But fishing these rivers in Springtime, can't compare to the Ashuanipi.

From Labrador-Fishing.com:
Ouananiche - one of the least known and rarest of fish species, Ouananiche are a landlocked version of the increasingly rare Atlantic Salmon, the "prince" of all game fish. Labrador is one of the few great Ouananiche fisheries in the world.
