A fisherman's life is a hell of a life,
I don't think I could live that way;
Tried it myself, it was hard on my health,
Just a-sick and a-dying all day.
The seas can be rough, you better be tough,
If you want to live that way;
Work on the shore, I don't ask for more,
But good luck and some take home pay.
When the weather is bad, you just be glad,
You found your port from the storm;
A roof over your head, some grub and a bed,
And a lady to help keep you warm.
I've known some great men, a few were my kin,
Their lives they spent it at sea;
Fishermen don't retire, they just expire,
Don't want it to happen to me.
