The Old House (Will Soon Be Gone)
(Labrador Black Spruce)

It was back in the days of fur trading,
John Campbell his life just begun;
Made friends with the mountaineer Indians,
And started to build his new home.

You could reach it by land or by water,
You could see it from high in the air;
But the greatest of all is the story once told,
How the old house just stood there so fair.

If you turn back the pages of history,
Their names you'll find written in gold;
A century has passed and the house it still lasts,
While its builder has gone from our shore.

Every chair, the table and the dresser,
Nowhere could that trademark be found;
The hard work of that old fur trader,
From the forest he cut the trees down.

The old iron pot and the kettle,
The gun rack now lay on the floor;
The stove with the big barreled oven,
No longer will heat that old home.

If you turn back the pages of history,
Their names you'll find written in gold;
A century has passed and the house it still lasts,
While its builder has gone from our shore.

If you lived in the days of John Campbell,
In the years that his life was in bloom,
And you followed the trail to the country,
It would lead you to that old trapper's home.

If you followed that lonely old footpath,
As the sun slowly sinks in the West,
It would shine brightly on a marble tombstone,
Marking where they laid him to rest.

If you turn back the pages of history,
Their names you'll find written in gold;
A century has passed and the house it still lasts,
While its builder has gone from our shore.
While its builder has gone from our shore.
While its builder has gone from our shore.
