Built Like A Rock (Roustabout)

We're built like a rock, especially for the rock,
No one on the mainland can understand our talk;
Through the blinding snow and ice we routinely walk,
We're built like a rock, me boys, especially for the rock.

Well, only here in Newfoundland are we allowed to say,
How ya doin', Newfie, how ya gettin' on today?
No one from the mainland, though we loves to see ya come,
Are given our permission to assault our native tongue.

We love the winter and the snow and all the fun it brings,
We'll never call the army in to shovel snow in spring;
Though truth be told, you never know, we'll soon be comin' close,
To callin' in the navy to sweep the seals from off our coast.

We're built like a rock, especially for the rock,
No one on the mainland can understand our talk;
Through the blinding snow and ice we routinely walk,
We're built like a rock, me boys, especially for the rock.

We perched our houses on the cliffs and defy the cold north wind,
'Cause that's the place we had to go when we first did come in;
We never mind the rain and fog 'cause they are just a fad,
Just give us sun for half a day, we'll forget the storms we've had.

Our future is much brighter now, and this we gotta say,
We used to look up to T.O. but we're looking down today;
No way to count us down and out, we're risin' to the top;
Today the sun is shinin', and we'll have no more 'have not'.

We're built like a rock, especially for the rock,
No one on the mainland can understand our talk;
Through the blinding snow and ice we routinely walk,
We're built like a rock, me boys, especially for the rock.
We're built like a rock, me boys, especially for the rock.
