Donald's gane up the hill hard and hung-e-ry,
Donald comes down the hill wild and ang-e-ry;
Donald will clear the gouk's nest cleverly,
And here's to King and to Donald MacGilliavry.
Come like the weigh-bauk, Donald MacGilliavry,
Come like the weigh-bauk, Donald MacGilliavry,
Pack on your back, elwand sae cleverly;
Here's to the King and to Donald MacGilliavry.

Donald's run o'er the hill but his tether, man,
As he were wud, or stang'd wi' an ether, man;
When he comes back, there's some looking merrily:
And here's to the King and to Donald MacGilliavry.
Come like the tailor, Donald MacGilliavry,
Come like the tailor, Donald MacGilliavry,
Pack on your back, elwand sae cleverly;
Give them full measure, Donald MacGilliavry.

Donald was mumpit with mirds and mockery;
Donald was blinded with blads o' property;
Arles ran high, makings were naething, man,
Lord, how Donald is flyting and fretting, man!
Come like the wise-heart, Donald MacGilliavry,
Come like the wise-heart, Donald MacGilliavry,
Push about, in and out, thimble them cleverly,
Here's to King and to Donald MacGilliavry!

Donald has fought with rief and roguery;
Donald has dined with banes and beggary,
Better it were for Whigs and Whiggery,
Speak of the devil, Donald MacGilliavry.
Come like the devil, Donald MacGilliavry,
Come like the devil, Donald MacGilliavry;
Skelp 'em and scaud 'em that proves sae unbritherly,
Up with the King and Donald MacGilliavry!

####.... James Hogg [1770-1835] novelist, essayist, poet, biographer and journalist from Ettrick, Scotland, UK ....####
James Hogg published this song as Donald Macgillavry in 1819 as #60 on page 100 of Hogg's Jacobite Relics of Scotland being The Songs, Airs, And Legends, of the Adherents to the House of Stuart, Collected and Illustrated by James Hogg, Edinburgh: Printed for William Blackwood, Prince's Street and T Cadell and W Davies, Strand, London. MDCCCXIX. Oliver & Boyd, Printers. Hogg, in fact, passed off this example of his own work as a relic of outstanding merit and undoubted authenticity.

This variant was recorded by the Navigators (Sea Miner, Trk#4, 2009 CD, produced by Arthur O'Brien, recorded at the Iguana Sound Cave, and published by the Navigators).
