Vote For Bride McGinnis (Johnny Burke)

A crowd of women voters
last Monday night did call,
To wait on Bride McGinnis
for to nominate this fall;
An independent candidate
this fall is in the fight,
To see the fair sex gets fair play
and fight for women's rights.

She'll make things hum if she's
returned when Bride she gets in power,
She'll see the working girls well paid
three dollars every hour;
The hours not more than ten each day,
and then for overtime,
Five dollars and a bowl of soup
when working after nine.

She'll make a law to wear long skirts
when once she will get in,
And every girl must wear a skirt
just reaching to her shin;
No dog-fish-basket's hats will do
when once she takes the floor,
But in the fall and winter
she must wear an Elsanor.

She'll have a new moon twice a week
when girls go out to spark,
Not trying to hug a lamp post,
can't see Reuben in the dark;
Spring latches on the pudding bags,
and radios loud and sweet,
There's nothing small in Bridget,
but only just her feet.

She'll see to all the women's folks
how they must get their share,
And fancy jobs for all her friends
who live in Murphy's Square;
Jane Kenny in the Upper House,
and Anastasia Clance,
She's the devil on the figures,
make her Minister of Finance.

Then vote for Bride McGinnis,
she's honest, good and true,
She is not a bit ambitious,
just Prime Minister will do;
A lover of her country,
she will try and do her best,
And she won't be stuck for chewing gum
while there's money in the chest.
