My Heart And Soul's In Newfoundland

I worked real hard when I was young,
Back in Newfoundland,
But hard times are hard times,
I tried to understand,
Why I had to leave my home,
The place I dearly love,
The little cove that I called home,
When I was growing up.

I had to tell my mom and dad,
It was time to say goodbye,
To cross the deep blue waters,
My suitcase at my side;
That song kept passing through my mind,
Newfoundland I Miss Your Shores,
I was heading for the mainland,
Like so many have done before.

I'm far away from my hometown,
With money in my hand;
My body's left the island,
My heart and soul's in Newfoundland.

There ain't a day that passes by,
When I don't think of home,
Trying to make a living,
The years have come and gone;
I often dream of leaving here,
When my bills are no more due;
And go back to the land I love,
In childhood days I knew.

Dad and mom have both passed on,
Their stones set on the hill,
Overlooking the little cove,
Where time is standing still;
I often wonder in my mind,
If things might have worked out;
I guess I'll never know for sure,
Beyond a dreaming doubt.

I'm far away from my hometown,
With money in my hand;
My body's left the island,
My heart and soul's in Newfoundland.

My body's left the island,
My heart and soul's in Newfoundland.
My body's left the island,
My heart and soul's in Newfoundland.
