When I stop to count my blessings a little while each day,
I sit and watch the sunset cast shadows on the bay,
Gaze at the table mountains, see the clouds hang o'er Gros Mourne,
I'm thankful that I could return to see my home once more.
Where the rivers just meandered through the mountains to the sea,
To stand alone out on the beach brings back fond memories,
Of my many boat trips 'round the bay in the stillness of the night,
The reflections on the water is an everlasting sight.
The beauty and the freedom to do just what we please,
The things we take for granted should bring us to our knees;
Just take a look around you, it's not hard to understand,
Why we have a piece of heaven right here in Newfoundland.
To take a drive in autumn 'round our inlets, coves, and arms,
And witness Mother Nature as she turns on all her charms;
When the leaves all change their colors, and the forest is aglow,
We have a touch of heaven between our ice and snow.
To spend a while out fishin' in our many brooks and ponds,
The chirping of the little birds as they sing their mating song;
Where the friendly native people still respect their fellow men,
We have a piece of heaven right here in Newfoundland.
