The Torch (Judy Brazil) video

When the bright light of days did end,
And as twilight fell over them,
They lay in the still of the night,
Not knowing of where or when,
This hatred would ever end,
Will they ever come home again,
Their face filled with grief and pain,
When they think of their dying friends.

Many years have gone by since then,
And it's a chapter that never ends;
Many stories and songs to be told,
By survivors who have now grown old.
And they lament on the anguish of war,
And the cause they went fighting for...
For love and peace of their countrymen,
We will always remember them...

Who in Flanders Fields now lie,
We remember why they did die,
And we'll carry this torch for them,
We will hold it up high.
This flower of red that we wear,
In November of each passing year,
Is to honour our comrades all,
When they answered their country's call.

We have heroes who still remain,
And proudly they carry this flame,
As they fight for our freedom and peace,
Peacekeepers they are by name.
We salute these brave women and men,
Who hold high the torch for them...
For no one has greater love,
Than to lay down his life for friends...

Who in Flanders Fields now lie,
We remember why they did die,
And we'll carry this torch for them,
We will hold it up high.
This flower of red that we wear,
In November of each passing year,
Is to honour our comrades all,
When they answered their country's call.
Is to honour our comrades all,
When they answered their country's call.

Liner Note: Judy was inspired to write this song in honour of our many veterans and peacekeepers past and present, including her own sister - Master Corporal Marina Halleran of Gander. Judy has been singing for years at Remembrance Day celebrations, particularly the song Green Fields Of France which she recorded on her 2001 CD I'll Be There. In 2006, Judy decided to compile her own feelings and thoughts about Remembrance Day into words and music on her Dance With Me CD which was also recorded with Pat Boland.
