Love Me Tonight (Great Big Sea) video

We've waited all this time,
This long and lonely time;
Now the light that trickles down,
It soaks into your eyes.
And all I can send her,
The awkward pretender in this life.

I wonder if you love me tonight,
I wonder if you love me tonight;
So delicate and lovely,
I wonder if you love me.

Are you on my side,
On my dark and lonely side?
I'll make it worth your while,
I'll give you every reason why.
And all we'll remember,
A simple surrender just in time.

I wonder if you love me tonight,
I wonder if you love me tonight;
So delicate and lovely,
I wonder if you love me.

You and I could wait and see,
A single note don't make a melody;
You and I could wait and see,
A single note don't make a melody.
All together you and me,
A single note don't make a melody;
All together you and me,
A single note don't make a melody.
And all I've been saying,
The one thing that's
been weighing on my mind.

I wonder if you love me tonight,
I wonder if you love me tonight;
So delicate and lovely,
So delicate and lovely,
I wonder if you love me tonight...
tonight... tonight.

All together you and me,
A single note don't make a melody;
All together you and me,
A single note don't make a melody.

Recorded by Great Big Sea of St John's, NL (Fortune's Favour, trk#1, 2008, Warner Music Canada, Scarborough, Ontario).

Liner Notes: We had written the album and then Hawksley showed up in St John's with the beautiful and brilliant Jeen O'Brien and decided to write it again. We thought he was cracked but had previously agreed to give him enough rope to hang himself and waited for the sound of the rope snapping tight. We are still waiting. This was the third song we wrote in as many days. It's about the dimming of lights before the show begins and the insecurity we feel from the stage.... or a girl.

The video above features a live performance during a secret show by Great Big Sea at P J O'Brien's Pub in Toronto, Ontario, kicking off the Fortune's Favour album promotion tour in June of 2008.
