Last night I went to sleep and I went back home on the farm,
I could smell the fragrance in the breeze from the lilac trees around;
I could see my pony grazing in the field behind the barn,
And I wish that I could take me back in time.
I could see my daddy work those fields until his back was sore,
While mama cooked our meals and scrubbed the clothing that we wore;
Then we'd give thanks at every meal that everything was fine,
And I wish that I could take me back in time.
Mama's homemade apple pie and her sweet smile,
And the days I spent with daddy in those cornfields on the farm:
It's a picture that I'll always have implanted in my mind,
Oh, I wish that I could take me back in time.
Running through the daisies from the school back to the farm,
With another day of learning tucked underneath my arm;
Holding hands with Mary Lou in a way that meant no harm,
Oh, I wish that I could take me back in time.
Now they went and built a factory where that homestead used to be,
But it will always be home sweet home in my memory;
I can still hear mama calling from the front porch suppertime,
And I wish that I could take me back in time.
Mama's homemade apple pie and her sweet smile
And the days I spent with daddy in those cornfields on the farm
It's a picture that I'll always have implanted in my mind
Oh I wish that I could take me back in time.
Oh I wish that I could take me back in time.
