Back In The Good Old Days

I used to work on the line, building new Chevrolets
One piece at a time, I got paid a good wage;
We had money left over when the bills were all paid,
Back in the good old days.

Had a blue-green sedan, loaded down with chrome,
A wife and two kids, and a home of our own;
We never thought then anything could go wrong,
Back in the good old days.

But something went wrong in the land of the free,
The milk and honey's all gone that used to run free;
Things sure ain't like they used to be,
Back in the good old days.

My kids graduated, with master's degrees,
But they can't find a job, so they're walking the street
Doing menial work for the minimum wage,
Not like the good old days.

My wife and I sit on the porch all alone,
We're still making payments on this modest old home;
With my hours cut back, and my savings all gone
That I made in the good old days.

Something went wrong in the land of the free,
The milk and honey's all gone that used to run free;
Things sure ain't like they used to be,
Back in the good old days.

Something went wrong, in the land of the free,
The milk and honey's all gone that used to run free;
Things sure ain't like they used to be,
Back in the good old days.

I sure miss those good old days.
