Turtle Dove (MacEdward Leach)

If you ever fall in love with a little turtle dove,
You got to linger all around her on her jaw;
You have to kiss her for her mother,
her sister, and her brother,
Till her daddy come and kick her from the door.

[Spoken] All the maidens, they do love it,
All the widows, they're above it,
[Sung] Every lady have her finger in the pie;
[Spoken] But the women, they're so haughty,
They won't say a thing is naughty,
[Sung] But I'll bet your life, they'll do it on the sly.

Oh, a girl seventeen, she will think 'tis rather mean,
She haven't got a someone for a match;
She will pucker up her mouth in a very pretty pout,
And she'll fumble underneath a great moustache.

All the maidens, they do love it,
All the widows, they're above it,
Every lady have her finger in the pie;
But the women, they're so haughty,
They won't say a thing is naughty,
But I'll bet your life, they'll do it on the sly.

[Spoken] Oh, she will make you shiver,
She will make you jump a river,
[Sung] She will stick to you like granulated glue;
If you happen for to tell her,
You're some other girl's feller,
She will massacre your smeller if you do.

All the maidens, they do love it,
All the widows, they're above it,
Every lady have her finger in the pie;
But the women, they're so haughty,
They won't say a thing is naughty,
But I'll bet your life, they'll do it on the sly.
