Christmas Tree Eyes

How often we go back to that Christmas Eve
that we sat by the old Christmas tree,
And our little daughter woke up from her sleeping
to snuggle between you and me;
With her sweet little head tipped to one side she said:
Mommy, you look so pretty tonight;
Then turning to me she said: Daddy, you see,
Mommy's got Christmas tree eyes.

I couldn't help smiling as I tucked her into her bed
as she went off to sleep,
I knew the reflections that she'd seen in your eyes
were only the lights on the tree;
Then slowly it dawned on me what she had seen
may have been something deeper inside,
Though she didn't know she had just seen the glow
of the love that still burns in your Christmas tree eyes.

Oh, your Christmas tree eyes,
soft as the first fall of snow,
Now Christmas is here but each day of the year,
I still love to get lost in their glow;
But it took the words of a sweet little girl
to finally make me realize,
God put the beautiful upon your face,
and I put the lights in your Christmas tree eyes.

Time keeps on rolling and we keep on growing
much closer as years come and go,
And our little girl has become a young woman
with lights in her eyes of her own;
But we'll always be thankful she helped us discover
a gift with a valuable side,
For the greatest of all was the one that she saw
as she gazed at the love in your Christmas tree eyes.

Oh, your Christmas tree eyes,
soft as the first fall of snow,
Now Christmas is here but each day of the year,
I still love to get lost in their glow;
But it took the words of a sweet little girl
to finally make me realize,
God put the beautiful upon your face,
and I put the lights in your Christmas tree eyes.

God put the beautiful upon your face,
and I put the lights in your Christmas tree eyes.
