Sally Brown, come down I wants you,
Ay ho, roll and go,
Roll and go, and she rolls me over,
And I'll spend my money on you, Sal Brown.

Sally Brown was Jim Brown's daughter,
Ay ho, roll and go
She rolls me over ten times over,
Spend my money on you, Sal Brown.

####.... Author unknown. Traditional capstan shanty ....####
Published in Gerald S. Doyle's Old-Time Songs And Poetry Of Newfoundland: Songs Of The People From The Days Of Our Forefathers (Third edition, p.53, 1955).

Also published on p.29 of Songs Of Newfoundland, a complimentary booklet of lyrics to twenty-one songs distributed by the Bennett Brewing Co. Ltd., of St. John's, NL, with the cooperation of the Gerald S. Doyle Song Book from which these lyrics were obtained.

Doyle apparently found this capstan shanty in Ballads and Sea-Songs of Newfoundland by Elizabeth Bristol Greenleaf and Grace Yarrow Mansfield (Harvard University Press, 1933) who published it as #166, Sally Brown, from the singing of Capt. John Gullage and what other men said from the S.S. Sagona, 1929.
