I'm just an old Newfie boy, living from day to day,
Wondering what the future holds in time along the way;
Times I know are getting rough and jobs are hard to find,
I figured I could leave this rock and leave it all behind.
I traveled to Toronto to see what I could find,
There wasn't much to offer but I took what I could find;
I got a job in a factory and I was doing fine,
But that just didn't matter 'cause Newfie's on my mind.
I'm going back to Newfie, a place where I can stand,
A little place where I was raised and I'm so proud to say:
No matter where I wander my mind keeps wandering back,
Back to my island home, a place called Newfoundland.
I weep the pay I got back then, I'm sure it's not so grand,
There was barely enough to get me through, I'm sure you understand;
Pay the rent with juice and slip, it'd just sure make my day,
Though I'm better off in Newfie, maybe that was my mistake.
City life is not for me, I'm just an old Newfie boy,
Take a look at the way I drink, you know I don't tell no lies;
I get up early in the morning, put a packsack on my back,
Grab my axe and a little snack, I'm just a Newie boy.
I'm going back to Newfie, a place where I can stand,
A little place where I was raised and I'm so proud to say:
No matter where I wander my mind keeps wandering back,
Back to my island home, a place called Newfoundland.
