The ocean wears the rocks to sand,
seasons change upon the land,
Once a boy but now a man,
I look back on the years;
I think of all my family who
came and went before I knew,
They had dreams just like I do,
how I wish I'd known them all.

And the songs we sing,
and the tunes we play,
have echoed out before,
On moonlit nights or on stormy seas,
on the land or far from shore;
As my fingers play these notes,
and the memories draw the tears,
I think of all my family
and the passing of the years.

Somewhere in the years gone by,
my parents they were girl and boy,
Together they would laugh and cry,
as they journeyed on through life;
But time goes by and hair turns gray,
children grow and move away,
Young I wish they both could stay,
but that could never be.

And all the things I learned
from them I never will forget,
The times that they were proud of me,
and the times they were upset;
As my fingers play these notes,
and the memories draw the tears,
I think of all my family
and the passing of the years.

My grandparents were special, too,
they sang old songs that no one knew,
They'd always smile when they saw you,
growing before their eyes;
But grandparents disappear,
I miss them more every year,
Sometimes I shed a tear,
to see them once again.

And the hands that once held us
on the days that we were born,
Have since become all
weathered, aged, and worn;
As my fingers play these notes,
and the memories draw the tears,
I think of all my family
and the passing of the years.

Now as I sit and dream where my
life is going and where it's been,
I picture all the sights I've seen
and the people that I've met;
And sometimes when I start to cry,
my mind drifts back to days gone by,
There is no simple answer
why time goes by so fast.

And the songs we sing,
and the tunes we play,
have echoed out before,
On moonlit nights or on stormy seas,
on the land or far from shore;
As my fingers play these notes,
and the memories draw the tears,
I think of all my family
and the passing of the years.
I think of all my family
and the passing of the years.

(Capo 3rd Fret) Key of C

Intro: [A] [Asus4] [A] [Asus2] x 2

The ocean wears the [C#m] rocks to sand, [D] seasons change up- [A] on the land,
Once a boy but [C#m] now a man, I [D] look back on the [E] years;
[A] I think of all my [C#m] family who [D] came and went be- [A] fore I knew,
They had dreams just [C#m] like I do, how I [D] wish I'd known them [E] all.

Pre-Chorus 1:
And the [D] songs we sing, and the [E] tunes we play, have [A] echoed [E] out be- [D] fore,
On moonlit nights or on [E] stormy seas, on the [D] land or far from [A] shore;

Chorus:
As my [D] fingers play these [E] notes, and the [A] memories [E] draw the [D] tears,
I think of all my family and the [E] passing of the [A] years.

(Intro x 1)

Somewhere in the [C#m] years gone by, my [D] parents they were [A] girl and boy,
Together they would [C#m] laugh and cry, as they [D] journeyed on through [E] life;
But [A] time goes by and [C#m] hair turns gray, [D] children grow and [A] move away,
Young I wish they both [C#m] could stay, but [D] that could never [E] be.

Pre-Chorus 2:
And [D] all the things I [E] learned from them I [A] never [E] will for- [D] get,
The times that they were [E] proud if me, and the [D] times they were up- [A] set;

Chorus:
As my [D] fingers play these [E] notes, and the [A] memories [E] draw the [D] tears,
I think of all my family, and the [E] passing of the [A] years.

(Chorus chords)

My grandparents were [C#m] special, too, they [D] sang old songs that [A] no one knew,
They'd always smile when [C#m] they saw you [D] growing before their [E] eyes;
[A] But grandparents [C#m] disappear, I [D] miss them more [A] every year,
Sometimes I [C#m] shed a tear, to [D] see them once a- [E] gain.

Pre-Chorus 3:
And the [D] hands that once [E] held us, on the [A] days that [E] we were [D] born,
Have since become all [E] weathered, [D] aged and [A] worn;

Chorus:
As my [D] fingers play these [E] notes, and the [A] memories [E] draw the [D] tears,
I think of all my family, and the [E] passing of the [A] years.

(Interlude)

Now as I [C#m] sit and dream where my [D] life is going and [A] where it's been,
I picture all the [C#m] sites I've seen, and [D] the people that I've [E] met;
And [A] sometime when I [C#m] start to cry, my [D] mind drifts back to [A] days gone by,
There is no simple [C#m] answer why time [D] goes by so [E] fast.

Pre-Chorus 1:
And the [D] songs we sing, and the [E] tunes we play, have [A] echoed [E] out be- [D] fore,
On moonlit nights or on [E] stormy seas, on the [D] land or far from [A] shore;

Chorus:
As my [D] fingers play these [E] notes, and the [A] memories [E] draw the [D] tears,
I think of all my family and the [E] passing of the [A] years.
[D] I think of all my family, and the [E] passing of the [A] years.
