Living The Old Days With The New

He sits there by the window and stares across the bay,
His thoughts go drifting back in time to a brighter day;
Still hanging onto time that's gone 'cause sunny days are few,
He's living all the old days with the new.

He still recalls the first time he went fishing with his dad,
His mother begged him not to go for he was just a lad;
She said, "There'll surely come a time you'll wish you stayed in school."
Now it's hard to trade the old days for the new.

Now he looks into the future and all that he can see,
Is faded dreams and memories of times that used to be;
He's looking for contentment where happy days are few,
It's hard to trade the old days for the new.

He still feels strong to carry on with nothing left to do,
Just try to live the old days with the new.

He's always been a workin' man with not much in return,
But he always kept his family fed on little that he earned;
Now, money can't buy happiness where working days are few,
He's living all the old days with the new.

Now he's reading all the writing that's written on the wall,
It's written for tomorrow, it makes no sense at all;
So he drifts on back to yesterday to times that he once knew,
He's living all the old days with the new.

He still feels strong to carry on with nothing left to do,
Just try to live the old days with the new.

He still recalls warm summer nights when he courted Mary Ann,
And the day he placed a golden wedding band on her hand;
Now she still stands beside him when days are turned on blue,
And he thanks the Lord for a woman's love so true.

He still feels strong to carry on with not much left to do,
They're trying to live the old days with the new,
They're living all the old days with the new.
