Rising Of The Moon

Every river has to flow down from the mountains to the ocean,
Every new day has it's dawning by the rising of the moon;
Every empire has to crumble into social revolution,
Every true heart in the world hopes that the day is coming soon.

Have the words of our forefathers lost all their meaning,
Or have we grown too wise to realize what they mean?
Oh, they laughed at the old people's dire predictions,
Now, with shame we proclaim them to be prophecy.

Rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up,
'Tis the rising of the moon;
Rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up,
'Tis the rising of the moon.

Out from many's a mudwalled cabin, eyes were watching thru the night,
Many's a manly heart was throbbing for the blessed warning light;
Murmers passed along the valleys, get you ready quick and soon,
For we all must stand together by the rising of the moon.

Hear the voices of the people as we cry out for freedom,
Everyone in the whole world just wants to be free;
But it's one thing to talk and another to listen,
If we all close our eyes then we never will see.

That they fought for this island and full bitter was their fate,
Oh, I pray to God in heaven and I hope that it's not too late;
For the days are passing swiftly and the time is coming soon,
That we all must stand together by the rising of the moon.

Rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up,
'Tis the rising of the moon;
Rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up,
'Tis the rising of the moon.

Liner notes: When the moon is in a new phase and the conditions are right it can be seen to rise in the morning sky. Perhaps the people were aware of this who took part in the uprising in 1789 in Ireland.
Today all around the world there is a great feeling of change with the coming of a new millenium and economic globalization. Let us hope and pray that all we have come to know in the past will not be discarded and we may learn from our mistakes.
