Give me the worst of weather,
Give me the best of friends;
Give me the place where cold waters race
Over mountains to marshes, down valleys to the ocean.
Give me the sound of the seashore,
Waves pounding a path in the sand;
Show me the spot that's cool water and rock,
And I'll show you Newfoundland.
I'm home in the Codroy Valley,
I'm home on the Great Northern Pen;
I'm home on the Avalon, Treppassey to Roddicton,
Burin to Bonne Bay, that's where you'll find me.
Bays Fortunem, Placentia, St. Georges,
Cape Freels, St. John's to Cap Ray,
From its ocean and sands, to its tall timber stands,
I'll show you Newfoundland.
Perhaps it's because I was born here,
Grew up and played on the beach;
But I can't stay away for too many days,
Without feeling I must be near salt-waters reach.
Perhaps its the folks I love dearly,
My countrymen, family and friends;
Or perhaps it's the air, so fresh, clean and clear,
Or the fogbanks that keep rolling in.
I'm home in the Codroy Valley,
I'm home on the Great Northern Pen;
