On a hill overlooking Trout River,
My mind takes a back whip in time;
In the cove sits the old Northern Ranger,
Unloading our winter supplies.

And the little boats go in and out of the cove,
Small kids they play in the sand;
And the old folks they sit
with their pipes in their lips,
That's a picture of my Newfoundland.

There's a smile on the face of Grandfather,
When he thinks of that Labrador shore;
On the wall there's a picture of the Caribou,
She was killed in the Second World War.

And the little boats go in and out of the cove,
Small kids they play in the sand;
And the old folks they sit
with their pipes in their lips,
That's a picture of my Newfoundland.

My grandmother she's looking all over,
But I'm hiding in Tom Crocker's boat;
Pretending I'm Tom in a cold winter's storm,
I can hardly keep her afloat.

And the little boats go in and out of the cove,
Small kids they play in the sand;
And the old folks they sit
with their pipes in their lips,
That's a picture of my Newfoundland.

On a hill overlooking Trout River.
