Me and Billy Ferguson were headed for a time,
There was no use to deny it, we had one thing on the mind;
The Kavanaugh girls were coming and that suited me just fine,
We had to get there early so we wouldn't wait in line.
I spied her at the second that I got in through the door,
With radiance and beauty like I'd never seen before;
Her name was Susan Kavanaugh the Queen of all the Shore,
Billy winked at me and said, "That's what'cha came here for."
And he said, "Take the lassie by the hand and ask her for a dance,
There's no more time to waste, you may not get a second chance;
The single boys are eager and they're looking for romance..."
A-diddly-dah-di-diddly-dah-di-diddly-dah-di-do.
I made my way across the floor and went to where she stood,
I was dressed in my new shirt and pants and feeling pretty good;
Well I mustered up more courage than I ever thought I could,
And when she turned and smiled at me I made a bet she would.
Let me take the lassie by the hand and ask her for a dance,
There's no more time to waste, you may not get a second chance;
The single boys are eager and they're looking for romance...
A-diddly-dah-di-diddly-dah-di-diddly-dah-di-do.
I kept her out to every dance I never left the floor,
And when it was all over I walked her to her door;
Well by the time we kissed goodnight it was quarter after four,
She gave me the impression I'd be seeing her some more.
Take the lassie by the hand and ask her for a dance,
There's no more time to waste you may not get a second chance;
The single boys are eager and they're looking for romance...
A-diddly-dah-di-diddly-dah-di-diddly-dah-di-do.
