Sometimes I'm up, sometimes I'm down,
Sometimes I barely get by;
If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all,
But I always have the will to survive.
I've been around the block a time or two,
Lord knows I'm going 'round again;
But I keep my eyes wide open no matter what I do,
And I always keep my back to the wind.
It's a rocky road to heaven, and if I don't get there,
It's good to know that Mom and Daddy will;
Way up on that mountain, I know they're gonna climb,
Will I be at the bottom of the hill?
We all knew that someday she'd take Jesus by the hand,
'Cause Momma never seemed to do no wrong;
And if Daddy never found Him, we'd surely understand,
Now they're happy singing gospel songs.
It's a rocky road to heaven, and if I don't get there,
It's good to know that Mom and Daddy will;
Way up on that mountain, I know they're gonna climb,
Will I be at the bottom of the hill?
