Fort McMurray (Joe West)

I came north to find a living,
I was broke in my hometown,
To seek a job out in the oil sands,
And buy a house for a dollar down.

When I arrived in Fort McMurray,
I was set back on my heels;
The jobs I wanted were all taken,
I couldn't work the oilfields.

I grabbed a guitar and a song book,
Took a walk down to the park;
Passed the hat in Borealis,
Sang until it got too dark.

Spent the summer in McMurray,
Made enough to keep me free;
Listened to the latest country,
At FM 93 point 3.

I thought of going back to my home,
But there's no work, where would I stay?
I'd miss the country that I'm used to,
The hot sounds of CJOK.

There are people from all over,
Newfoundlanders from the Bay;
Stereo country at its finest,
It's found here on CJOK.

Now there's a moral to this story,
You see, I know 'cause I've been there;
You'll get hooked on Fort McMurray,
No better people anywhere.

You'll get hooked on Fort McMurray,
No better place anywhere.
