When Your Daddy Comes Home From The Sea
(Janet Kidd)

We stand on the shore and gaze out to sea,
Is your Daddy thinking of me?
Oh, I pray for the day my wishes come true,
And your Daddy comes home to you.

Oh, your Daddy is brave and your Daddy is true,
And, I know in my heart, he will love you;
We wait on the shore, my baby and me,
For that ship to come home from the sea.

We laughed for the sun and sang for the moon,
But our song was over too soon;
Oh, the senses reel, passions burn,
And your Daddy will surely return.

Oh, your Daddy is brave and your Daddy is true,
And, I know in my heart, he will love you;
We wait on the shore, my baby and me,
For that ship to come home from the sea.

He'll open his arms and call out my name,
And all will be the same;
Oh, and arm in arm, such lovers you'll see,
When your Daddy comes to me.

Oh, your Daddy is brave and your Daddy is true,
And, I know in my heart, he will love you;
We wait on the shore, my baby and me,
For that ship to come home from the sea.

Published by Janet Kidd (Back To The River St John, Oceanna Music Publications, Kawartha Lakes, Ontario).

Janet Kidd has been directing and arranging music for choral groups for nearly 30 years, and composing for them for almost as long. She received a Bachelor of Music degree from Queen's University, Kingston. She then moved to Vancouver where, for seven seasons, she sang with the Vancouver Chamber Choir. When she and her family moved to the Maritimes, she became a singer/songwriter specializing in songs about the region. Her song Back to the River St. John has been arranged for several types of choir and for women's barbershop chorus.

Because she has directed children's choirs, mixed choirs, youth choirs, women's choirs and a woman's barbershop chorus, her compositions and arrangements reflect her years of experience with amateur singers, featuring attractive melodies, harmony lines that flow easily and simple yet effective piano accompaniments.

Janet lives in New Brunswick, Canada, with her composer husband, Richard Kidd, and their four children. She is presently music director for two Catholic churches where it is frequently required to write new service music.
