Sir, beyond that point that's the open sea,
And, mister, that's where I want to be;
Where my father went, and his father before,
And where it appears I'll go no more.

In my grandfather's time, as he'd often recall,
He'd fish from spring up into the fall;
To pay his debt to the merchant and then,
The whole thing would start all over again.

Now the fish are gone and what few remain,
Go to bigger boats who bear the company name;
They all can sail far out to sea,
Where the danger's too great for my boat and me.

And one day as I watched them steamin' out the bay,
I was thinkin' 'bout debts honest men can't pay;
And I swore no other would take my soul from this pier,
So just off that point, sir, I made her disappear.

Well, you can rest assured there's no sadder day,
Than to watch your life slip beneath the waves;
And I cursed them all, the bank, the company,
And the government who let them do it to me.

But in my mind she'll always be,
With her head to the wind on the open sea;
With a hearty crew of fishermen,
How I'd love to go to sea again.

So, sir, beyond that point that's the open sea,
And, mister, that's where I want to be;
Where my father went, and his father before,
And where it appears I'll go no more.

With a hearty crew of fishermen,
How I'd love to go to sea again,
Yes, how I'd love to go to sea again.

Sir, beyond that [G] point that's the open sea.
And, mister, [Am] that's [C] where I want to [G] be;
Where my father [Am] went [C] and his father be- [G] fore, [Em]
And where it ap- [C] pears [D] I'll go no [G] more.

In my grandfather's [G] time, as he'd often recall,
He'd fish from [Am] spring [C] up into the [G] fall;
To pay his [Am] debt [C] to the merchant and [G] then, [Em]
The whole thing would [C] start, [D] all over a- [G] gain.

Now the fish are [G] gone and what few remain,
Go to bigger [Am] boats [C] who bear the company [G] name;
They all can [Am] sail [C] far out to [G] sea, [Em]
Where the danger's too [C] great, [D] for my boat and [G] me.

So just off that [C] point, sir, [D] I made her disap- [G] pear.

Well, you can rest [G] assured there's no sadder day,

With a hearty [Am] crew [C] of fisher- [G] men. [Em]
How I'd love to [C] go [D] to sea a- [G] gain,
Yes, how I'd love to [C] go [D] to sea a- [G] gain.
